Accessibility

One of the groups aims is to “break down barriers to allow all members of the community to get involved in nature”. This is something the group is committed to working towards and we will be working with organisations such as Ability Shetland to make this aim a reality.

If you are an individual or Shetland based organisation who could offer us any support or advice; or who wish to get involved in the group please get in touch.

Ability Shetland is a local charity that supports the efforts of disabled people to realise their full potential in all areas of life. They will be offering us advice and support as well as access to resources that may be of use in assisting people with restricted mobility access to the outdoors.

They currently own 3 All Terrain Wheelchairs; 1 attendant wheelchair where the person in the chair is pushed by someone else, and 2 self-propelled chairs. These are available to be hired out on request.

M.V. Wotton Lass is a specially adapted boat which is capable of accommodating wheelchair users and those with restricted mobility. The boat is currently moored at Lerwick marina where there is a hoist for wheelchair users. The Wotton Lass will be available for us to use if required.

If you would be interested in more information or booking an all terrain wheelchair for one of our activities Ability Shetland can be contacted directly on 07895 406005 or take a look at their website.
